Does poor hood fitment have you struggling to open or close your first gen Camaro’s hood without damaging the paint? Often the original rusty and crusty 1967-1969 Camaro hood hinges are to blame. After years of daily use, the stock hinges often have worn to the point of excessive pivot point slop, not to mention the binding caused by years of dirt and debris caught in them. Smooth Hood Opening And Closing With Ample Adjustment Settings For A Perfect Fit
When designing our steel F-body hood hinges for the 1967-1969 Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird we knew it had to be strong and built to handle thousands of opening and closing cycles without the hood adjustment changing, which can lead to chipped paint, hood damage, or even a hood jammed that won’t open. We also knew we wanted custom hood hinges that had an original appearance with minimal maintenance, which is why we opted for 7ga and 10ga steel plate that is flat black zinc plated. This coating, much like the original coating GM used, provides clean looks with a corrosion resistant finish that can be painted if the installer wishes. Lastly, we wanted to ditch the traditional hood spring, which weakens over time and often can be noisy, with a tried and true hydraulic gas strut assembly like those used on modern vehicles. The hydraulic gas strut assembly ensures the hood rises evenly with minimal effort and allows the hood to be closed without placing a lot of stress on the hood structure.

The LS engine has found its way under the hood of just about every make and model you can think of since it became the darling of the engine swap world. Compact, powerful, tons of upgrade and performance options, and most of all, easy on the wallet, the LS swap has become common place. The thing is the LS cooling system can be a head scratcher for some. More so than fabricating a set of motor mounts even. The cooling system utilizes a surge tank setup and two or four steam port outlets from the cylinder heads. Three Row Core for Increased Thermal Transfer and Greater Coolant Capacity
If two rows of 1-inch cooling tubes are good, three rows of cooling tubes are better, right? Not always, but it can be. Just adding a third row or “core” to a two core radiator can often increase the thickness of the radiator core to the point there are fitment issues in the vehicle, or the core thickness becomes too much for the typical electric or engine driven fan to pull air through, negating the benefit of the additional core tube. A Trick Billet In-Tank EFI Pump Module for Any Power Level
These days it’s easier than ever to build horsepower. Decades ago, a hot carbureted engine made 500 horsepower and was more than happy to be fed by the old-school electric fuel pump whirring away under the back bumper. But modern EFI engines can make that kind of power with little more than a cam swap, and they need that fuel delivered at more than 50psi. Bolt on a couple turbos or a supercharger and power levels can easily exceed 1,000 horsepower. A setup like this needs a serious fuel pump (or two). TwoLane™ EFI In-Tank Fuel Pump Retrofit Modules are designed to fuel modern EFI powerplants from mild to wild.
Versatile Pumps and Versatile Packaging
There are quite a few advantages of an in-tank pump design. That’s why the OE’s have been using them for decades. Particularly critical at high power levels is the cooling effect of the fuel in the tank on the pumps. Additionally, the surrounding fuel helps isolate the sound of the pumps. Spend any time in a car with a big external pump bolted to the frame and you’ll appreciate the relative silence of in-tank pumps. Internal pumps also serve to clean up the plumbing, minimizing fittings and potential leak sources when compared to external pumps.
Some in-tank pump modules simply have holes for the plumbing that run straight into the top plate. These appear to be low profile until you start adding the fittings and adapters needed to connect the system and they can grow tall in a hurry. Not great for fitting under trunk and box floors. We’ve been bit by this in the past, so the billet lids on these modules feature and AN-10 outlet fitting and AN-8 vent and return fittings that project from the billet housing parallel to the top of the tank, allowing for low profile routing of the plumbing that’s still sized big enough to handle just about any power level.
Inside the tank, the adjustable bracket works on a wide variety of tanks, from 8-3/4”deep all the way up to 17”. That means that these can be adapted into many stock-style EFI tanks.

Don’t Let a Factory Transmission Tunnel Stop You from A Modern Transmission Swap
Most any car built before the 21st century utilized a 3- or 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. If you really roll the calendar back, there were even 2-speed autos and 3-speed manuals installed in the trans tunnel of various rides. These transmissions were relatively demure in stature, allowing the manufacturer to utilize a small transmission tunnel in their floor pan stamping. This provided more leg room, but also allowed bench seats and bucket seats with consoles to fit more easily as well.
Today, many enthusiasts are looking for ways to extend their driving range with overdrive transmissions. From modern electronically controlled 4-, 6-, or even 10-speed automatics, to double overdrive 6-speed manual transmissions, these transmissions require large cases to hold those extra gears, and in many cases electronic controls. Installing these larger than life transmissions not only require some sort of transmission swap crossmember, but in many cases requires modification to the factory transmission tunnel. Cutting away the factory transmission tunnel sheet metal to fit a wider and taller transmission means also having to fabricate a new replacement tunnel. We know that not everyone is a sheet metal savant and that fabrication of something like transmission tunnel sheet metal can be a frustrating experience to say the least. It takes numerous sheetmetal tools to make a proper tunnel or even to pie cut and raise the factory tunnel. Our universal transmission tunnel kit is laser cut, and press formed from automotive grade 18 gauge cold rolled steel, just like the rest of your vehicle’s floor pan. Protect your Performance Engine Build With An Oil Catch Can System
Oil catch can systems have become popular with gas direct injection (GDI) engines, as their direct injection design delivers the high pressure fuel directly to the combustion chamber vs spraying at the back of the intake valve as in traditional EFI systems. That fuel spray helps remove oil deposits and keeps the valves clean, so adding an oil catch can system to a GDI engine helps in the same manner but by removing the oil vapor from the crankcase/PCV system, increasing engine life, and reducing strain on engine seals, turbos, and more. You’ll find a lot of direct fit applications for modern GDI cars, and some manufacturers are even including oil catch can or “recovery” systems from the factory now. But what about muscle cars and other classics with modern engine swaps or performance builds with increased crankcase/blowby from turbos or superchargers? For these applications, a universal oil catch can is your best option.
Universal Mounting and Connections To Work With Any Engine
Unlike these modern GDI engines, when you’re tying up loose ends on your turbocharged LS swap, you’re not going to be able to find an LS catch can system that is a “direct fit” due to the many changes that occur with such swaps. As such, we have designed a universal PCV valve catch can kit that is sure to work on just about any application. Constructed from aluminum and CNC machined for exacting tolerances that provide a leak free installation, we powder coat it a neutral black finish that compliments any engine compartment. The 300ml capacity provides for extended drain intervals and the included threaded dipstick allows easy oil level checks to determine when a full draining of the reservoir is required. Measuring just 4.27 inches high and 2.68 inches in diameter, our oil catch can is capable of being mounted just about anywhere in your engine compartment with the included mounting bracket.

The first mechanic creeper saw service in the early 20th century. Its design made use of wood sheets or planks with solid steel wheels. It was a crude device, but it was an economical and safer alternative to adding a pit to a shop or garage floor for mechanics to stand in and perform undercar work. LS swaps are certainly hugely popular and today they’re making more power than ever thanks to all manner of LS single turbo kits that provide easy bolt on gains for horsepower and torque. Many of these kits are based around a single turbo and cast iron manifolds. This is great for a street application, but what if you’re wanting to up the boost and go racing? Or perhaps you want to configure a custom twin turbo setup for your LS swapped race car?
One of the best ways to plumb a large single turbo or a set of twins in a mirror image setup (one standard and one reverse rotation turbo) is with a forward facing tubular header setup. Using upswept forward facing turbo LS headers provide the shortest and cleanest path to your turbos and provide more room in the engine compartment for your intercooler and the fitment of a motor plate (which usually obstructs the typical down facing exhaust collector when swapping manifolds side for side) by keeping the turbo mounting higher in the engine bay.

The ease of adding a turbo to your build has come a long way in the last decade. Where going the turbo route often meant tons of fabrication it was often easier to add a supercharger kit or even add a nitrous plate to your engine previously. Much of that has changed though with complete turbo kits for popular chassis/engine applications, and numerous hot side installation kits for popular setups like single turbo LS swaps. But what if you don’t have something popular engine or chassis wise because you like to build stuff that others don’t? Well, then you’re going to have to plan your turbo build out, choosing the appropriate bits for your chassis, engine, and power level desired.
Obviously, choosing the turbo itself is a great starting point, as that will determine hot and cold side tubing diameters, intercooler sizing, and more. One aspect of building a custom turbo setup is connecting the turbo’s turbine inlet to your exhaust system. There are various weld on T4 turbo flange to 3-inch pipe options available, however these T4 turbo flange transitions may not place the turbo in the correct location for your engine compartment’s workspace. Using a T4 flange that incorporates a tight 90-degree bend not only provides more mounting options, but when utilizing the infinite adjustability of a V-band connection your turbo placement options are almost limitless.
T4 to V-Band Connection Provides Custom Mounting Solution for Your Turbo Build
In custom turbo installations, especially where under hood room is at a premium, being able to place the turbo exactly where you need it for fitment and/or plumbing needs is paramount. Often in these cases pre-made turbo manifolds or headers will not work due to interference with the chassis or other components and custom 3-inch hot side plumbing must be utilized to feed the turbo in the location you’ve chosen for it to live. In these instances, utilizing a T4 turbo flange to 3-inch pipe adapter is mandated. However, you can improve on this configuration by going to a T4 to V-band connection, and yet another step to a 90-degree V-band elbow. LevelSet™ Modernizes the Dropped Spindle
Dropped spindles are one of the oldest tricks in the book to bring a C10 truck closer to the ground. Instead of installing a shortened lowering spring that can negatively affect the truck’s handling and alignment, dropped spindles move the hub up relative to the rest of the suspension, lowering the truck without messing with the geometry. Historically, dropped spindles have simply been a revised version of the stockers, but with the spindle pin moved up. That “candlestick” spindle pin dates back to the horse and buggy days, and modern trucks that spend time at speed out on the freeway deserve a more modern hub design.
Speedway Motors LevelSet™ Dropped Spindles feature a 2.5” drop, but with a twist. Instead of the traditional candlestick where the wheel bearings ride, these spindles use a more modern cartridge style hub, similar to what’s used on modern trucks and sports cars. This design offers increased strength when compared to the old school design thanks in part to bigger bearings that are positioned closer to the hub. The result is greater resistance to side loading since the forces are not cantilevered out to the tiny end of the pin. Additionally, this design results in lower bearing speeds thanks to the larger bearing diameter. On top of that, the spindle itself is forged from 4140 steel for even more strength and durability. The Chevy C10 pickup’s rear suspension proved quite effective when released. So much so that NASCAR used the famed “truck arm” suspension based on the C10’s design from the early 1960s all the way up until the Next Gen platform launch in 2022. That’s more than 50 years under some of the winningest NASCAR race cars. Today, the C10’s rear trailing arm setup is still a popular choice for everything from mild street builds to corner carving pickups just inches off the ground. However, there is one issue that begets the typical C10 trailing arm setup when the truck is lowered and that is ground clearance. This is especially a concern in relation to the exhaust system.
The factory 63-66 and 67-72 C10 exhaust routing exhaust usually ran lower than the frame rails, which isn’t an issue on a typical C10 as it left the factory. But drop it down in the weeds to give it that killer stance that’ll snap necks and suddenly, your exhaust system has nowhere to go to get to the rear of the truck. Your options are pretty much turn downs (dumps!) in front of the trailing arm crossmember or fabricating some sort of C10 side exit exhaust. Otherwise, if you attempt to go under the crossmember you’ll most likely be getting intimate with every speed bump and road reflector in town! GM asked a lot of the ’68-’72 A-body chassis. From docile shopping mall creeping with the family packed into a Cutlass to spirited driving in big-block powered brutes like the GTO and LS6 Chevelle, one chassis had to do it all. And like any one-size-fits-all solution, there were some compromises. Those big-block Chevelles and Oldsmobile 442s handled better than their grocery-getting brethren, but GM could only do so much by tacking on heavier springs and sway bars. Not to mention the fact that they were working with 60’s technology and skinny bias-ply tires.
Many of us in the years since our favorite muscle-era warriors rolled off the line have tried the bolt-on route to better handling. Proper Placement of Your Small Block Chevy Engine Swap in ’63-’72 Chevy or GMC Trucks
Chevrolet’s first and second generation C10 pickup trucks are some of the most popular fodder for all manner of build ideas. From patina’d cruisers to billet everything pro tourers, these trucks have a massive following that is hard to miss at most any automotive event you will attend. No matter what the build plans are, one thing is for certain, most owners are quick to ditch the original inline-six workhorse for the tried-and-true performance and looks of the Gen 1 small block Chevy V8. While it is true that the small block Chevy V8 will bolt up to the inline-six frame mounts, it is far from an ideal solution in most cases. Let’s discuss why.
You see the inline-six frame mounts place the SBC engine too high and too far rearward. This can cause driveline angle issues, transmission to tunnel issues with larger modern overdrive transmissions, and is especially problematic for the small block Chevy’s rear of block distributor location. Upgrading to GM’s HEI-style distributor is nearly impossible when placing a small block Chevy in the engine bay using inline-six frame mounts in the stock location, as there simply isn’t enough room between the rear of the SBC V8 and the firewall. Lastly, there is the issue of most tubular headers interfering with the large, stamped steel inline-six engine frame mounts as well. Even some low-mount alternators or front accessory drive setups may interfere with these stamped frame mounts. The fix? A C10 engine mount bracket that provides the strength and correct mounting points required in a smaller, low-profile package.
Laser Cut, Press Bent, And Welded for Strength and Precision Fitment
Stampings get their strength from bends and angles formed in the stamping process. This is why a stamped frame member is stronger than a flat sheet of steel with the same gauge thickness. However, this comes at a cost, with that cost being the overall size of the stamping. This is not an issue with an inline-six engine, but once you add a V8, having a smaller frame mount bracket is necessary. When converting to power brakes, or simply replacing an existing power brake booster, there must be a correct 1/16th inch (.020-inch) gap between the brake booster’s integral pushrod and the master cylinder. If this gap is not correct it can cause a spongy/soft pedal. Worse is no gap (preload technically) where the master cylinder piston is compressed slightly once the master cylinder is tightened down to the power brake booster. This can cause brake drag and overheated brakes as if you were riding the brake pedal with your left foot (don’t do that either!). To get this specific gap correct would usually require careful depth measurements with a vernier/dial caliper or a depth gauge, along with a ruler and a little bit of math. Who wants to do math, right? Exactly, which is why we produced this nifty little brake booster push rod adjustment tool.
Measure And Adjust Power Brake Booster Pushrods in Seconds!
Using our brake booster rod adjustment tool is easy. Place the end of the tool marked for the master cylinder onto the end of your master cylinder.
