Recruiters are always in search of talented candidates in order to fulfill the job vacancies. And, the first step to finding the right candidate is to scan through a bunch of resumes that are either in the database or send across to the recruiter by the interested candidates. The resumes are like the introduction or the face of the candidate for the corporate world, and they mostly contain all the required details that a recruiter would want to know. But, scanning a large bunch of resumes is definitely isn’t a piece of cake. The recruiters have to keep a lot of things in mind while revising so many resumes, as the first phase of screening is via the resumes itself.

Can recruiters or should recruiters make judgments based on the resumes?

Resumes are meant to present a candidate’s abilities, experience, education, knowledge etc. in front of the recruiter. Therefore, there is no doubt about the fact that resumes tell a lot about the candidate. However, when it comes to selecting the candidate for the next round of interview or rejecting the candidate, then there is a lot goes in then just screening of the resume.

Therefore, the recruiters are definitely making judgments about the candidates based on the resumes, but that doesn’t meant that the entire decision depends only on the resume. Though, there is still a debate that whether only screening resumes would be the ideal process or not, but to be practical, yes, it is important to at least move to the next level of interviews.

On what basis does the recruiter reject or select a candidate by seeing the resume?

A resume contains a lot of information about the candidate. Starting from his or her education background to experience. And, certain jobs require a set of minimum qualification that are mandatory. So, the first level of resume screening is done based on the minimum qualification. For example, say the minim qualification for a job is graduation. So, in the first phase of resume screening, only the graduated candidates will be selected. However, sometimes, there isn’t just one mandatory qualification, there are multiple, and thus, the screening of the resume is based on the mandatory qualifications. For example, say for a particularjob, the company requires B.tech graduates with minimum 2 years of experience, then in that case, the screening will be based on these two major criteria.

Resumes don’t say it all

Though, the recruiters know the importance of a resume, but to be honest, resumes do not say it all. There is a lot that can be assessed after talking to the candidate, meeting the candidate or knowing more about him or her. Therefore, the first level of resume screening should ideally be only based on the minimum job qualifications required. For example, say you want to hire a digital marketing manager and you want a person with an MBA degree. So, the first level of screening would be easy. And, after screening the first set of candidates, the second stage will include reviewingtheir experience and learning. As digital marketing is a very exciting and new field. Therefore, people with more knowledge about the latest happenings in the digital world will surely have more chances to succeed.

Even the cover letter plays a major role in knowing more about the candidate. Sometimes, that gives a fair idea about the experience and the skills of the candidate. So, make sure you go through the cover letters also while screening resumes.

Resume screening is important, but is definitely not everything. There is a lot that can be learnt about the candidate which is not even mentioned in the resume as well. And, that can happen if you interact with the candidate. In fact, now, we may even have artificial intelligence based programs for scanning the resumes. So, you will get your firsts set of candidates automatically. The Ai based program saves a lot of time of the recruiters. Additionally, the speed at which it works is also superb. Therefore, a lot of companies have already shown interest in the AI based tool, and very soon we may see s high adoption rate of this fabulous solution.
