Setting up cross-domain tracking with Google Tag Manager

To properly track all traffic and data generated from Maker, you will need to set-up cross-domain tracking.

Before moving forward with your cross-domain tracking, ensure that someone from your team has filled out the GA information fields in Partner Settings.

To set-up cross-domain tracking with Google Tag Manager, sign into your Tag Manager account.

1. Create an Auto-Links Domain Variable

Add Maker as a Constant Variable in your Auto Link Domains. In the second 'Configure Variable' field, add maker's domain: You will not need to enter any additional subdomains at this time.

Click Save Variable to save your changes.

2. Enable Cross Domain Tracking in your Pageview Tag

Open your Universal Analytics Pageview Tag. On the ‘Configure’ step in the tag creation wizard, click the More Settings dropdown menu and then the Cross Domain Tracking menu underneath that. 

In the field marked Auto Link Domains, enter {{Auto Link Domains}}:

3. Add the allowLinker to Fields to Set

After adding {{Auto Link Domains}}, scroll back up the page to the Fields To Set dropdown menu and click to expand it. 

Click Add Field, and then enter allowLinker into the Field Name field. 

In the Value field, enter true:

You're almost finished, but don't publish just yet. There's one final and important step left.

4. Update Your Referral Exclusion List

To ensure that Google Analytics treats traffic from Maker as direct traffic instead of referral, you will need to update your referral exclusion list. 

Open the Admin Panel in Google Analytics, then select the Tracking Info menu item from the PROPERTY configurations (ensure the correct site is selected in the ACCOUNT settings as well).

 Select the Referral Exclusion List menu item.

To add Maker as a domain, click +ADD REFERRAL EXCLUSION.

Enter Maker's Domain name: and click Create to save:
